David Ige to fill one student seat for a two-year appointment beginning July 1, 2018, subject to confirmation by the state Senate.<\/p>\n<p>The finalists<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Kelli K.K. Acopan<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Ian F. Tapu<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Brian P. Wild<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Finalist biographies are available at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/rcac\/\">Candidate Advisory Council website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><abbr>CAC<\/abbr> began accepting applications to fill the vacancy last fall after contacting and encouraging student groups to nominate candidates. The council placed print advertisements and issued news releases encouraging applications.<\/p>\n<p>All applications were thoroughly and comprehensively reviewed and screened by all <abbr>CAC<\/abbr> members.<\/p>\n<p><abbr>CAC<\/abbr> is required by law to conduct recruiting efforts, accept and screen applications, interview candidates and submit to the governor the names of nominees to serve as regents of the <abbr>UH<\/abbr> System. Regent positions are voluntary non-compensated appointments.<\/p>\n<p>Candidate lists are compiled after a comprehensive review and selection process, which is solely and exclusively merit-based and according to procedures set forth in state statutes and the council\u02bbs administrative rules.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The Candidate Advisory Council members sincerely thank all the students who applied for this seat on the Board of Regents. We had a number of qualified applicants, and we are truly inspired by their desire to serve the university and the State of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span>,&rdquo; said <abbr>CAC<\/abbr> Chair <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/rcac\/members.php?member=6\">Brigitte Yoshino<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The Board of Regents is the governing body of <abbr>UH<\/abbr> and consists of 15 members. Representation includes seven from the City and County of Honolulu, two from <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> County, two from Maui County, one from <span aria-label=\"Kauai\">Kaua&#699;i<\/span> County, two at-large and one <abbr>UH<\/abbr> student.<\/p>\n<p><abbr>CAC<\/abbr> members serve voluntarily and are not paid.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Candidate Advisory Council presented a list of candidates to Gov.
