{"id":69737,"date":"2017-10-20T14:21:27","date_gmt":"2017-10-21T00:21:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/?p=69737"},"modified":"2019-03-13T11:06:11","modified_gmt":"2019-03-13T21:06:11","slug":"sustainability-directory","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2017\/10\/20\/sustainability-directory\/","title":{"rendered":"<abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">UH<\/abbr> community urged to share how they teach and practice sustainability"},"content":{"rendered":"<span class=\"span-reading-time rt-reading-time\" style=\"display: block;\"><span class=\"rt-label rt-prefix\">Reading time: <\/span> <span class=\"rt-time\"> &lt; 1<\/span> <span class=\"rt-label rt-postfix\">minute<\/span><\/span><div class=\"responsive-video-wrap\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"676\" height=\"380\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/mw-mVsKTQj4\" title=\"YouTube video player\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>Across the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/\">University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span><\/a> System, sustainability, resilience and climate change are taught in many different classes, across all academic disciplines.<\/p>\n<p>President <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/leadership\/david-lassner\/\">David Lassner<\/a><\/strong> released a personal message to the <abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">UH<\/abbr> community via video inviting <abbr>UH<\/abbr> stakeholders to share how they are contributing. Responses will be used to develop a community and directory of sustainability scientists, scholars and practitioners.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLSfnlSIpSjTTSO05zJhn1lAzLicW6mASnY3_Zjja2T-r8g-Vkw\/viewform\"><abbr>UH<\/abbr> sustainability directory survey<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&ldquo;Mahalo nui loa for all you are doing and will do for our planet and those who will follow us,&rdquo; said Lassner. &ldquo;There is perhaps no more important work before us and for the future of humanity.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Last June, Lassner joined more than 180 college presidents in signing the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wearestillin.com\/about\">We Are Still In<\/a> document, representing thousands of organizations across sectors to support the United States&#8217; commitment to the <a href=\"http:\/\/unfccc.int\/paris_agreement\/items\/9485.php\">Paris Agreement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In 2015, Lassner and the Board of Regents endorsed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/policy\/?action=viewPolicy&#038;policySection=ep&#038;policyChapter=4&#038;policyNumber=202\">Executive Policy 4.202<\/a>, which outlines sustainability goals in the areas of operations, curriculum, research, community engagement and cultural connections. The <abbr>UH<\/abbr> System Office of Sustainability is charged with tracking and implementing these goals across all 10 campuses.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Climate change will impact us all, regardless of discipline, sector, race or gender,&rdquo; said <abbr>UH<\/abbr> System Sustainability Coordinator <strong>Matthew K. Lynch<\/strong>. &ldquo;It&#8217;s up to us to equip our students with an education relevant to the future they face, and this directory will help us to share knowledge across our departments and campuses to complement, support and enhance the excellent work under way across the University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span>.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The deadline for submitting surveys is December 1, 2017.
