More Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> public school graduates are going to college, according to a recent report from Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> P-20.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Fifty-three percent of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span>’s public high schools’ class of 2011 enrolled in college for the fall semester following their commencement, an increase of three percent over the previous years’ graduating class enrollment.<\/p>\n

The increase in college-going rates and college preparation is reported in an annual study recently issued by Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> P–20 Partnerships for Education<\/a> and the Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> State Department of Education<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The College and Career Readiness Indicators report presents information on how well Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> public school graduates are prepared to meet the Department of Education’s Vision of a High School Graduate<\/a>. It is an annual collaboration between the Department of Education and the University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span><\/a>, and is coordinated by Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> P-20 Partnerships for Education.<\/p>\n

“The College and Career Readiness Indicators report is an important tool that provides the information we need to see if our state is improving the college-going rate of our public high school students, and to gauge progress on their assessments and college remediation rates,” said Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> P–20 Partnerships for Education Executive Director Karen Lee<\/strong>. “This information is invaluable to the Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> P–20 mission of 55 percent of working age adults having a two- or four-year college degree by 2025.”<\/p>\n

According to the report, the University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> remains the top choice for students, with 40 percent of the class of 2011 enrolled in one of 10 UH<\/abbr> campuses for the fall 2011 semester. This represents 80 percent of those graduates who entered college.<\/p>\n
