With the encouragement of the book\u2019s coauthor, recently retired <abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa <a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.hawaii.edu\/\">William S. Richardson School of Law<\/a> Professor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.hawaii.edu\/personnel\/roth\/randall\"><strong>Randall Roth<\/strong><\/a>, and with the support of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ksbe.edu\/\">Kamehameha Schools<\/a>, the open access edition of <em>Broken Trust<\/em><\/a> is freely available to download or read on multiple platforms, including the <a href=\"https:\/\/scholarspace.manoa.hawaii.edu\/handle\/10125\/48548\">ScholarSpace <\/a> open-access, digital institutional repository; <a href=\"http:\/\/a.co\/0tFjGaH\">Amazon Kindle<\/a>; <a href=\"https:\/\/books.google.com\/books?id=z6Y2DwAAQBAJ\">Google Books<\/a>; and <a href=\"https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/us\/book\/broken-trust\/id1289450562?mt=11\">Apple iBooks<\/a> version.<\/p>\n<p>The open access edition has an added introduction with remarks by Roth and the current Kamehameha Schools trustees, and includes Roth\u2019s eulogy for coauthor Samuel P. King, the late federal judge who passed away in December 2010.<\/p>\n<p>Published in 2006 and still in print as a paperback, <em>Broken Trust<\/em> examines the landmark events of the late 1990s set off by the publication of the &ldquo;Broken Trust&rdquo; essay in the <em>Honolulu Star-Bulletin<\/em> that exposed mismanagement of the Princess Bernice Pauahi Bishop trust and of its beneficiary, Kamehameha Schools.<\/p>\n<p>Written by King, Roth and three respected k\u016bpuna, the essay led to the empowerment of the school\u2019s wider community and historical changes in the selection of Bishop Estate trustees.<\/p>\n<p>Release of the book in open-access format will make this history\u00a0accessible to an even wider audience than previously and facilitate use in educational settings.
