{"id":66517,"date":"2017-09-27T10:19:34","date_gmt":"2017-09-27T20:19:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/?p=66517"},"modified":"2020-01-08T14:17:29","modified_gmt":"2020-01-09T00:17:29","slug":"shidler-corporate-interview-rooms","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2017\/09\/27\/shidler-corporate-interview-rooms\/","title":{"rendered":"Revamped interview spaces kick start business careers"},"content":{"rendered":"<span class=\"span-reading-time rt-reading-time\" style=\"display: block;\"><span class=\"rt-label rt-prefix\">Reading time: <\/span> <span class=\"rt-time\"> 2<\/span> <span class=\"rt-label rt-postfix\">minutes<\/span><\/span><div class=\"responsive-video-wrap\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"676\" height=\"380\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/zveizBedaZ4\" title=\"YouTube video player\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>With a traditional Hawaiian blessing, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.shidler.hawaii.edu\/\">Shidler College of Business<\/a> at the <a href=\"https:\/\/manoa.hawaii.edu\/\">University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> <\/a>at M\u0101noa unveiled its newly renovated Corporate Interview Rooms on September 25 thanks to a $150,000 gift from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ficoh.com\/\">First Insurance Company of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span>, Ltd.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Corporate Interview Rooms will be used to conduct job interviews and to prepare students for internship opportunities and entry into the job market. The rooms received electrical upgrades, furniture, video equipment for mock interviews and several large digital monitors to conduct long distance interviews via Skype. <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We and the local business community in general benefit from having a world-class business school in our backyard,&rdquo; says Jeff Shonka, <abbr title=\"Chief Executive Officer\">CEO<\/abbr> of <abbr title=\"First Insurance Company of Hawaii\">FICOH<\/abbr>. &ldquo;Our funding of the Corporate Interview Rooms is another way for us to support this symbiotic relationship.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>This is just one of many successful programs and services offered by the Office of Internships and Career Development that have led to a steady growth of internships and career opportunities for students. Last year, the college placed more than 500 students in internships.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>We and the local business community in general benefit from having a world-class business school in our backyard.<br \/>\n&#8212;Jeff Shonka, <abbr>CEO<\/abbr> of <abbr title=\"First Insurance Company of Hawaii\">FICOH<\/abbr><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In a recent survey of undergraduates, nearly 40 percent were placed in jobs one month before graduation and an amazing 88 percent were placed in jobs within three months after graduation with 86 percent in their major. Among this group, 75 percent were placed in <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span>, 18 percent on the U.S. mainland and 9 percent internationally.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, more than 40 companies held interviews or informational sessions in the interview rooms through Shidler\u2019s Business of the Week program.
