The forum was titled, Media, Culture and Soft Power: Building a Global-Local Bridge in the Digital Age.<\/p>\n<p\/>\n<p>An intercultural collaboration between <a href=\"http:\/\/sjc.pku.edu.cn\/English.aspx\">Peking University\u2019s School of Journalism and Communication<\/a> and the University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> at M\u0101noa\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.communications.hawaii.edu\/\">School of Communications<\/a>, the forum hosted approximately 50 attendees, including a panel of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> journalists. Speakers included Jaime FlorCruz, Peking University adjunct professor and recently retired <abbr title=\"Cable News Network\">CNN<\/abbr> Beijing Bureau Chief; Tian Wei, China Global Television anchor of <em>World Insight<\/em>; Richard Vulsteke, East-West Center president and Charles B. Salmon, Jr, former ambassador and East-West Center adjunct professor.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_64837\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-64837\" style=\"width: 676px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/manoa-sino-us-media-forum-loi.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"676\" height=\"361\" class=\"size-full wp-image-64837\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/manoa-sino-us-media-forum-loi.jpg 676w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/manoa-sino-us-media-forum-loi-260x139.jpg 260w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 676px) 100vw, 676px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-64837\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Sino-U.S. Media Forum participants at Ka Papa <span aria-label=\"Loi\">Lo&#699;i<\/span> O K\u0101newai<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>This year\u2019s forum also incorporated a Hawaiian cultural dimension&#8212;<strong>Heather Haunani Giugni<\/strong> of <a href=\"http:\/\/uluulu.hawaii.edu\/\"><span aria-label=\u201cUlu Ulu\u201d>&#699;Ulu &#699;Ulu<\/span>, the Henry <span aria-label=\u201cKu\u02bbualoha\u201d>Ku&#699;ualoha<\/span> Giugni Moving Image Archive of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span><\/a> presented on media in the Hawaiian cultural context.
