University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> students interested in sustainability and world politics can apply to participate in a series of courses with an opportunity to observe at United Nations (UN) sessions focused on the implementation of the 2015 Paris Agreement on Climate Change and the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals Agenda.<\/p>\n

The fall 2017 PACS<\/abbr> 492 course entitled “Sustainable Development in Oceania” will be taught at UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa with a distance learning option and will focus on people most impacted living in Pacific Islands, introduce students to high-level UN<\/abbr> political processes, and participants will earn three UH<\/abbr> credits. Students will attend the UN<\/abbr> Conference of the Parties in Bonn, Germany for the UN<\/abbr> Framework Convention for Climate Change (subject to available funding).<\/p>\n

The course is taught by Joshua L. Cooper<\/strong>, dean of the International Human and Peoples Rights Law Program in Vienna, Austria and trainer at the International Training Centre for Teaching Peace and Human Rights in Geneva, Switzerland. Cooper is director of the Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span>Institute for Human Rights and also teaches at the University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span>.<\/p>\n

The UH<\/abbr> Office of Sustainability<\/a>, in partnership with multiple programs and departments at UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa<\/a> and Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> civil society partnered to offer this course. <\/p>\n
