Center for Interpretation and Translation Studies faculty and staff, and the class of the 13th biennial Summer Intensive Interpreter Training<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Communicating words, ideas and concepts across cultures is critically important and highly valued in today’s global society, and translators and interpreters are in great demand. The Center for Interpretation and Translation Studies<\/a> (CITS) at the University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> at M\u0101noa<\/a> is hosting its 13th biennial Summer Intensive Interpreter Training<\/a> with a record number 41 participants.<\/p>\n

The center is uniquely positioned and capable of teaching the skills of interpretation and translation with highly skilled faculty, consultants\u00a0and a vast network of experts that contribute to its curriculum and knowledge base.<\/p>\n

CITS<\/abbr> Director\u00a0Luc\u00eda Aranda<\/strong><\/a> said that over the course of six weeks, the training attendees (from the United States, Europe, Africa and Asia) hone their skills in note-taking and consecutive and simultaneous interpreting, and learn from world-class teachers who draw on their unique experiences as interpreters for organizations such as the United Nations and the European Union. After this summer’s concentrated instruction and practice in Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Spanish and French, participants’ interpreting skills are dramatically improved.<\/p>\n

Andr\u00e9s Espinal, a Spanish participant from Colombia said, “When I saw the quality of the people who will train us here, that convinced me that this is for real, this is serious.”<\/p>\n

Ekereobong Michael-Akuboh from Nigeria has a master\u2019s degree in translation and says, “I\u2019m getting feedback that I\u2019ve never really gotten anywhere before in my career.”<\/p>\n
