Belcher<\/a><\/strong>, a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uhwo.hawaii.edu\/\">University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span>&#8211;West <span aria-label=\"Oahu\">O&#699;ahu<\/span><\/a> assistant professor of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uhwo.hawaii.edu\/academics\/degrees-and-certificates\/bachelor-of-arts-in-social-sciences\/anthropology\/\">anthropology<\/a>, has been elected to a three-year term as an at-large-director for the <a href=\"http:\/\/theabfa.org\/\">American Board of Forensic Anthropology<\/a>, an organization that sets standards for forensic anthropologists.<\/p>\n<p>A board-certified forensic anthropologist, Belcher led <abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">UH<\/abbr> West\u00a0<span aria-label=\"Oahu\">O&#699;ahu<\/span> students on projects excavating the Honouliuli Internment and <abbr title=\"prisoner of war\">POW<\/abbr> camp in Kunia, and an excavation of a Japanese internment camp that held U.S. and British prisoners on Palau.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Related<\/strong>: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2016\/03\/16\/uh-west-oahu-students-to-excavate-world-war-ii-internment-and-execution-site-in-palau\/\"><em><abbr>UH<\/abbr> West <span aria-label=\"Oahu\">O&#699;ahu<\/span> students to excavate World War <abbr title=\"two\">II<\/abbr> internment and execution site in Palau<\/em><\/a>, March 16, 2016<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Prior to joining\u00a0<abbr>UH<\/abbr> West\u00a0<span aria-label=\"Oahu\">O&#699;ahu<\/span>, Belcher served as the deputy director of the Department of Defense&#8217;s Central Identification Laboratory and director of the Forensic Science Academy.<\/p>\n<p>Belcher also serves as the chair of the Anthropology Consensus Body of the Academy Standards Board, an organization dedicated to developing documentary standards for forensics.<\/p>\n<h2>More about the American Board of Forensic Anthropology<\/h2>\n<p>The American Board of Forensic Anthropology is based in Washington, D.C., and was established 40 years ago to enhance standards and advance the science of forensic anthropology.\u00a0Forensic anthropologists use clues from skeletons in assisting medical examiners and coroners with a variety of cases.
