Richardson School of\u00a0Law<\/a> has established two new programs in advanced legal studies aimed primarily at foreign-trained attorneys. The doctoral program is also available to U.S. attorneys hoping to spend time in legal research projects.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.hawaii.edu\/ajd-program-how-apply-0\"><abbr>AJD<\/abbr>, or\u00a0Advanced or Accelerated Juris Doctor<\/a>,\u00a0offers advanced standing to foreign-trained applicants. It\u00a0allows them to earn the <abbr title=\"Juris Doctor\">JD<\/abbr> degree in as little as two years of study rather than three, with the option of taking a U.S. bar exam after graduating, and being admitted to practice in the United States.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_62244\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-62244\" style=\"width: 200px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/manoa-law-tae-ung-baik.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" class=\"size-full wp-image-62244\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/manoa-law-tae-ung-baik.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/manoa-law-tae-ung-baik-173x260.jpg 173w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-62244\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Tae-Ung Baik<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.hawaii.edu\/sjd-program\"><abbr>SJD<\/abbr>, or\u00a0Doctor of Juridical Science<\/a>,\u00a0is primarily intended for those who have completed a <abbr>JD<\/abbr> or an <abbr title=\"Master of Laws\">LLM<\/abbr> program, and who already teach\u00a0or are preparing to teach law outside the United States. It is also designed for those involved in policy work in research institutes and government organizations.<\/p>\n<p>Professor <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.hawaii.edu\/personnel\/baik\/tae-ung\">Tae-Ung Baik<\/a><\/strong>, director of the new <abbr>SJD<\/abbr> program and a member of the school\u00a0committee that developed the new degree, called both advanced degree programs tremendous options for those seeking advanced legal training in order to further their legal careers virtually anywhere in the world.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We are confident that the <abbr>SJD<\/abbr> program will provide a great opportunity for international legal practitioners who want to deepen their knowledge to pursue a teaching career in their home countries,&rdquo; said Baik, a Korean law specialist who is also a member of the U.N. Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances. &ldquo;The program\u00a0will also\u00a0contribute to the already high quality of legal scholarship at the law school.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;By offering this degree, we join the most prestigious law schools while we also enhance the experience of all our students from across the globe,&rdquo; said William S.
