In addition to assuring the public that the rights and welfare of individuals who participate in research are protected, the accreditation demonstrates to potential collaborators and sponsors in the competitive global research arena that <abbr>UH<\/abbr> has built extensive safeguards into every level of research operations.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The <abbr>AAHRPP<\/abbr> accreditation reaffirms the University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span>&rsquo;s commitment to strengthen protections for participants involved in our research and will serve as a catalyst to further increase our community involvement and engagement efforts in this area,&rdquo; said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/leadership\/vassilis-syrmos\/\"><strong>Vassilis L. Syrmos<\/strong><\/a>, <abbr>UH<\/abbr> vice president for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/research\/\">Research and Innovation<\/a>. &ldquo;I would also like to acknowledge the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/researchcompliance\/human-studies\">Human Studies Program<\/a> team and all members of the three <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/researchcompliance\/institutional-review-board-irb-0\"><abbr>UH<\/abbr> Institutional Review Boards<\/a> for their key role in preparing us for this important accreditation.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Along with <abbr>UH<\/abbr>, the Broad Institute of <abbr title=\"Massachusetts Institute of Technology\">MIT<\/abbr> and Harvard in Cambridge, Massachusetts and Central Michigan University received recent accreditation from <abbr>AAHRPP<\/abbr>.
