Photo by Andrew Richard Hara.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>More about the P\u0101lamanui campus<\/h2>\n<p><span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> <abbr>CC<\/abbr>&#8211;P\u0101lamanui is the West <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> campus of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> Community College with more than 500 students enrolled during the past academic year in programs such as liberal arts, digital media arts, hospitality and tourism and more. The first phase of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> <abbr>CC<\/abbr>&#8212;P\u0101lamanui was completed in August 2015 and includes 24,000 square feet of learning space comprised of classrooms, culinary arts kitchens, science labs and more.<\/p>\n<p>The campus earned the <abbr>LEED<\/abbr> Platinum rating by incorporating numerous sustainable design elements in the facility. This includes on-site photovoltaics for electricity; efficient use of water, including a &ldquo;living machine&rdquo; natural wastewater recycling system; certified sustainable wood; low-emitting paints and adhesives and much more.<\/p>\n<p>The campus was designed by Honolulu-based architecture firm <a href=\"http:\/\/uwarchitects.com\/\">Urban Works<\/a>. In 2016 the design won a Renaissance Building and Remodeling Grand Award for new commercial construction from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.biahawaii.org\/\">Building Industry Association of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This is the second <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> <abbr>CC<\/abbr> building to earn a <abbr>LEED<\/abbr> rating.
