Eloise Morris<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Eloise Morris<\/strong> of the\u00a0University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> at Mānoa\u00a0Korean Language Flagship Center<\/a> (KLFC) has\u00a0been awarded the national Boren Scholarship<\/a>, which\u00a0will support her 2017–2018 KLFC<\/abbr> Overseas Capstone Program at Korea University in Seoul.\u00a0Boren Scholarships are an initiative of the National Security Education Program.\u00a0They provide unique funding opportunities for American undergraduate students to study less commonly taught languages in world regions critical to the national security of the United States.<\/p>\n

Originally from Colorado, Morris received the National Security Language Initiative for Youth Scholarship sponsored by the U.S. Department of State.\u00a0Upon entering UH<\/abbr> Mānoa, Morris chose to major in Korean Flagship (BA<\/abbr> in Korean for Professional). She said that she\u00a0realizes the importance of proficiency in the target language for government intelligence.<\/p>\n

After completing her BA<\/abbr>, Morris hopes to put her Korean language skills to use by serving in the federal government in a\u00a0position with national security responsibilities.<\/p>\n

Morris looks forward to traveling to Washington, D.C.,\u00a0to receive the award in June. She\u00a0joins earlier Korean Language Flagship Center Boren scholars\u00a0Danica Lim (2009), Bowha Kang (2010), Tyler Miyashiro (2013)\u00a0and Ryan Tanaka (2016).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
