Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM).<\/p>\n<p>The symposium allows health sciences students, <abbr title=\"Medical Doctor\">MD<\/abbr> residents and faculty from colleges throughout <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> to display their latest research. The 2017 symposium has attracted a record 169 recipients. They will compete in their divisions, but the setting has the feel of a scientific meeting. The research in health disparities&#8212;the variation in rates of disease and disabilities between people in certain socioeconomic groups&#8212;is especially relevant to <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> citizens.<\/p>\n<p>The symposium, sponsored by <abbr>JABSOM<\/abbr> and National Institutes of Health grants <a href=\"http:\/\/rmatrix.jabsom.hawaii.edu\"><abbr><abbr title=\"National Institutes of Health's Research Centers in Minority Institutions\">R<\/abbr><abbr title=\"Multidisciplinary And Translational Research Infrastructure Expansion\">MATRIX<\/abbr><\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/rcmi-bridges.jabsom.hawaii.edu\/RCMI%20BRIDGES%20index.html\"><abbr title=\"Research Centers in Minority Institutions\">RCMI<\/abbr><\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/inbre.jabsom.hawaii.edu\"><abbr title=\"IDeA Networks of Biomedical Research Excellence\">INBRE<\/abbr> <abbr title=\"Roman numeral three\">III<\/abbr><\/a>, is coordinated by the school&#8217;s cell and molecular biology graduate program.<\/p>\n<p>The event is open to the public. The locations include the <abbr title=\"John A.
