Hofheimer and Manny Cabral<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.leeward.hawaii.edu\/\">Leeward Community College<\/a> students will soon benefit from more scholarships thanks to a $100,000 gift from Kalaeloa Partners, <abbr title=\"Limited Partnership\">LP<\/abbr>. The Kalaeloa Partners Scholarship, established in 2012 with a $100,000 gift from Kalaeloa Partners, <abbr>LP<\/abbr> assists\u00a0part-time and full-time students who have graduated from either Kapolei High School, Campbell High School, N&#257;n&#257;kuli High School, Waipahu High School or Wai&#699;anae High School. Since 2012, 80 student awards have been disbursed.<\/p>\n<p>With this new gift, Kalaeloa Partners has donated $245,000 in total to support <abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">UH<\/abbr> students and programs.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>Impact of Kalaeloa Partners&#8217; philanthropy<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Since 2012, 80 student awards have been disbursed<\/li>\n<li>Student award recipients are reaching their academic goals and have earned:<br \/>\n&#8226;&nbsp;15 certificate degrees<br \/>\n&#8226;&nbsp;41 associate degrees<br \/>\n&#8226;&nbsp;5 baccalaureate degrees<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>&ldquo;Kalaeloa Partners is making this new gift in recognition of the dedication, passion for people and leadership skills Leeward Community College Chancellor <strong>Manny Cabral<\/strong> has demonstrated over the years. With him at the helm, Leeward <abbr title=\"Community College\">CC<\/abbr> has become an integral part of the west coast community,&rdquo; said Ruedi Tobler, general manager Kalaeloa Partners <abbr>LP<\/abbr>. &ldquo;Our appreciation for Leeward <abbr>CC<\/abbr> extends beyond the fantastic annual culinary experience L&#699;ulu provides under the able leadership of <strong>Tommylynn Benavente<\/strong>. We are grateful for the many opportunities it provides for so many students, who otherwise could not fulfill their dream of a higher education.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Established 26 years ago, Kalaeloa Partners <abbr>LP<\/abbr> is a community focused electrical energy provider for the island of <span aria-label=\"Oahu\">O&#699;ahu<\/span>. Their Kalaeloa Cogeneration Plant is the most efficient power plant on the island, and supplies 20 percent of the electricity needs of the island.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We encourage all students to set their goals based on a heartfelt passion and to consider the usefulness of their higher education in providing for their families and becoming contributors to society. Once a goal is set, I have found that hard work, life circumstances, sacrifice, hardship and finances must never be a reason to abandon such a noble goal,&rdquo; said Tobler.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We are thrilled to accept this continuing generous gift by Kalaeloa Partners to help our students with much-needed scholarship opportunities,&rdquo; said <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/leadership\/manuel-cabral\/\">Manny Cabral<\/a><\/strong>, Leeward <abbr>CC<\/abbr> chancellor. &ldquo;Since its inception five years ago, 80 awards have been made to students who reside in Leeward <span aria-label=\"Oahu\">O&#699;ahu<\/span> and attend classes at our Pearl City and Wai&#699;anae campuses. We are grateful to Ruedi Tobler and the Kalaeloa Partners &#699;ohana for believing in the mission of the college and providing scholarship funds for a significant number of deserving students.
