<a href=\"http:\/\/uhcc.hawaii.edu\/workforce\/index.php\">Sector Mapping Tool<\/a> was awarded the 2017 Bernice Joseph Award by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wiche.edu\/alliance\">Western Alliance of Community College Academic Leaders<\/a> at the Alliance&#8217;s annual meeting in March.<\/p>\n<p>The Sector Mapping Tool uses data visualization and heat mapping to align <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span>&#8217;s economic and workforce needs with academic offerings and production at <abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">UH<\/abbr>, making a clear connection between jobs and academic programs.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/uhcc.hawaii.edu\/workforce\/index.php\">View the Sector Mapping Tool<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&ldquo;The tool provides a complete visualization of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span>&#8217;s economy and K&#8211;12 as well as university academic alignments in real time,&rdquo; said Associate Vice President of the <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Community Colleges <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/offices\/cc\/vp_academic_assoc.html\">Peter Quigley<\/a><\/strong>, who along with <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Community Colleges Web Manager <strong>Paul Sakamoto<\/strong> recently finished developing the sector mapping tool. &ldquo;Several states have already expressed interest in having their own version.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The sector mapping tool will benefit our academic program planning at the community colleges, and it can inform policy decisions inside and outside of the university,&rdquo; said Jose Fierro, Alliance chair and president of Cerritos College. &ldquo;The tool is a prime example of the innovative solutions coming out of our two-year institutions to meet the changing demands facing higher education today.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Funding from Strada Education Network, formerly USA Funds, supported the development of the <abbr title=\"Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics\">STEM<\/abbr> analytics portion of the Sector Mapping Tool.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We congratulate the University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> Community Colleges on its receipt of this prestigious award,&rdquo; said William D. Hansen, Strada Education Network President and <abbr title=\"Chief Executive Officer\">CEO<\/abbr>. &ldquo;We are pleased to have supported this valuable new resource connecting the business sector, educators and students to promote a more purposeful path for students through college to rewarding careers.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>This is the latest <abbr>UH<\/abbr>-developed program to receive national recognition.
