Viewers of this popular, half-hour weekly television series are transported throughout the state, and even across the Pacific, to meet extraordinary people who reveal what the ocean tells them. <a href=\"http:\/\/mse.seagrant.soest.hawaii.edu\/voice-sea\"><em>Voice of the Sea<\/em><\/a> airs at 6:00 p.m. on Sundays in <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.k5thehometeam.com\/\">K5 The Home Team<\/a>. The program&#8217;s remarkable collection of knowledge features more than one hundred prominent scientists, cutting edge researchers and traditional knowledge experts who have shared the intimate details of their life&#8217;s work.<\/p>\n<p><em>Voice of the Sea<\/em> is hosted by <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/seagrant.soest.hawaii.edu\/kanesa-seraphin-phd\">Kanesa Seraphin<\/a><\/strong>, a professor in the University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> at M&#257;noa <a href=\"https:\/\/coe.hawaii.edu\/\">College of Education&#8217;s<\/a> Curriculum Research and Development Group, director of the <a href=\"http:\/\/seagrant.soest.hawaii.edu\/\"><abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">UH<\/abbr> Sea Grant College Program&#8217;s Center for Marine Science Education<\/a>, and eight-time paddleboard world champion. <em>Voice of the Sea<\/em> is doing important work in the community and making a positive contribution to the future of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> and the Pacific islands. We have covered important research about coastal erosion, ocean acidification, the rise of macroalgae, and the deep-sea food web. We&#8217;ve profiled traditional experts sharing knowledge that was once secret, including wayfinding aboard the H&#333;k&#363;le&#699;a, fishing practices in Palau and Tahiti, the cultural and conservation practices of Samoa and cancer research using cone snail venom in Guam.<\/p>\n<p>In recognition of the show&#8217;s level of excellence, <em>Voice of the Sea<\/em> has been awarded eleven <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tellyawards.com\/\" >Telly Awards<\/a>, which are the premier television awards honoring excellence in regional programming.<\/p>\n<p><em>Voice of the Sea<\/em> motivates community members to become involved and create a cohesive, vibrant community. As a signature project of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> Sea Grant&#8217;s Center for Marine Science Education, it aims to encourage students to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics fields.
