To explore the options available to those with a\u00a0terminal illness, the University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> at M&#257;noa <a href=\"http:\/\/www.publicpolicycenter.hawaii.edu\/\">Public Policy Center<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.peaceinstitute.hawaii.edu\/\">Matsunaga\u00a0Institute for Peace<\/a> are sponsoring a moderated panel discussion on February\u00a023 on the topic, End of Life: Public Policy for the Terminally Ill. The forum, which\u00a0begins at 7 p.m. at the <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> State Capitol Auditorium, includes Attorney General\u00a0<strong>Douglas Chin<\/strong>, Charles Miller and John Radcliffe of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.compassionandchoices.org\/hawaii\/\">Compassion and Choices\u00a0<span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span><\/a>, and Craig Nakatsuka and Joy Yadao of <a href=\"http:\/\/hpacc.org\/\"><span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span>&#8217;s Partnership for Appropriate\u00a0and Compassionate Care<\/a>. The panel will be moderated by Judge Michael Broderick\u00a0(retired), the president and <abbr title=\"Chief Executive Officer\">CEO<\/abbr> of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ymcahonolulu.org\/\"><abbr title=\"Young Men's Christian Association\">YMCA<\/abbr> of Honolulu<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Advances in medicine mean that more local residents are caring for relatives in\u00a0their final days and are facing difficult decisions about their illnesses and death.\u00a0Furthermore, 100 million Americans have a chronic disease, and a growing number of\u00a0these chronically-ill people are asking for the right to take their own lives.
