The University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> at Hilo’s ʻImiloa<\/span> Astronomy Center<\/a> celebrates Earth Day on Sunday, April 22 with activities, displays and discounts.<\/p>\n

Visitors who present a recycling receipt that day pay only $5 admission. The first 50 visitors will also receive a Nature Watch reusable bag which can be decorated with your personal green message.<\/p>\n

Special activities include information on biodiesel, worm composting and a farmers market with the UH<\/abbr> Hilo College of Agriculture<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The ʻImiloa<\/span> Astronomy Center of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> is a world-class informal science education center and is a Leadership in Energy Efficient Design certified building. The building is constructed of 75 percent recycled material and houses systems to control power and light consumption and provide overall environmental efficiency. The Sky Garden Restaurant incorporates glass walls to allow natural light into the space. The native landscape garden is a living exhibit of endemic, indigenous and Polynesian introduced plants, or what is often called “canoe plants.”<\/p>\n

ʻImiloa<\/span> is open to the public Tuesday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.<\/p>\n
