Stephen Lau Water Research Endowed Scholarship<\/a>, which will be awarded in fall 2017. The award amount is $1,500.<\/p>\n<p>The scholarship was established with funds endowed to the University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> at M&#257;noa by L. Stephen Lau and Virginia May Lau of Honolulu. Lau is emeritus professor of civil and environmental engineering at <abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">UH<\/abbr> M&#257;noa&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.eng.hawaii.edu\/\">College of Engineering<\/a> and was director of the <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M&#257;noa <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wrrc.hawaii.edu\/\">Water Resources Research Center<\/a> from 1971 to 1990.<\/p>\n<p>The purpose of the scholarship is to further knowledge of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span>&#8217;s natural waters by providing financial assistance that may be used for anything related to costs of attendance or research.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Eligibility criteria<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Part-time or full-time <abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">UH<\/abbr> system student<\/li>\n<li>Upper division undergraduate or graduate student<\/li>\n<li>Any discipline related to water resources in the <abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">UH<\/abbr> System pursuing a minimum four-year academic degree<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Selection criteria<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Minimum <abbr title=\"Grade Point Average\">GPA<\/abbr> of 3.2 for undergraduates or 3.5 for graduate students<\/li>\n<li>An essay or a research proposal on any aspect of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> natural waters and how the applicant&#8217;s research or area of study is related to it.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.wrrc.hawaii.edu\">Applications are available online<\/a>. Applicants must submit the application form, an essay or research proposal and evidence of eligibility (unofficial STAR transcript acceptable) to Barbara Guieb, <abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">UH<\/abbr> Water Resources Research Center, 2540 Dole Street, Holmes Hall 283, Honolulu, HI 96822. Email submissions are acceptable to <a href=\"mailto:barbarag@hawaii.edu\">barbarag@hawaii.edu<\/a>. Deadline for receipt of applications is Friday, February 28, 2016.
