The brightest student minds at Âé¶¹´«Ã½and beyond are invited to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.alawaichallenge.org\/\">Make the Ala Wai Awesome!<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The student teams are challenged to imagine a comprehensive, systems-thinking approach toward watershed management from mauka to makai (from the mountains to the sea). The Ala Wai Watershed encompasses key Âé¶¹´«Ã½assets and facilities, thousands of homes and businesses and the Waik&#299;k&#299; district that drives much of the state&#8217;s economy.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Related <abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">UH<\/abbr> News: <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2016\/09\/06\/students-around-the-world-challenged-to-make-the-ala-wai-awesome\/\">Students around the world challenged to Make the Ala Wai Awesome<\/a><\/em>, September 6, 2016<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Team proposals should include: ecosystem restoration, flood mitigation, community education and engagement, cultural connections, community access, mobility and recreation and economic health and resiliency.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dropbox.com\/s\/zepr4xd6i8wo7gt\/UnivHawaii-AlaWaiStudentChallenge-DesignBrief-2017.01.09.pdf\">Full details on the challenge are available for download (<small>PDF<\/small>).<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Registration<\/h2>\n<p>Student teams must first complete the <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/a\/hawaii.edu\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLSduM7aUNV473kCKQCIsXp_Xh7EASRuxLF4uULHm_uaypkkEQg\/viewform?c=0&#038;w=1\">online registration form<\/a> by January 31, 2017. A 4-digit anonymous identification number will be provided to all eligible and registered teams after the registration period has closed.<\/p>\n<p>Once teams are registered, submissions should be made via the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/filedrop\/\"><abbr>UH<\/abbr> FileDrop system<\/a> with <a href=\"mailto:alawai@hawaii.edu\">alawai@hawaii.edu<\/a> in the &ldquo;Recipient&rdquo; field. Submissions will be accepted until March 17, 2017.<\/p>\n<p>The international challenge, sponsored by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/\">University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span><\/a>, includes $10,000 in total prize money.
