Over the past five years approximatley 80 to 100 newly diagnosed cases of HIV<\/abbr> have been reported annually in Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span>. On World AIDS<\/abbr> Day, December 1, the Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> Center for AIDS<\/abbr><\/a> will host the 2016 Update: Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> to Zero conference<\/a>, which will detail how the state might realize a Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> to Zero goal.<\/p>\n

Researchers at the University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> at Mānoa John A. Burns School of Medicine<\/a>’s<\/a> Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> Center for AIDS<\/abbr> (HICFA) and community partners will lead discussions updating local efforts to prevent, treat and cure AIDS<\/abbr>.<\/p>\n

Speakers, including keynoter Julie Dombrowski of the University of Washington, will provide updates on the latest research in HIV<\/abbr> prevention. Also speaking will be HICFA<\/abbr> Director Cecilia Shikuma<\/strong><\/a> and center scientists including Lishomwa Ndhlovu<\/strong>, who was awarded top-tier funding from the National Institutes of Health this year to test his\u00a0“shock and kill” strategy to eliminate HIV<\/abbr><\/a> in the body.<\/p>\n

The event is free and is being held in the John A. Burns School of Medicine’ Sullivan Conference Center and the UH<\/abbr> Cancer Center.<\/p>\n
