The college awarded more than $1 million in scholarships for the 2016&#8211;2017 academic year.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Enterprise Rent-A-Car and our sister brands, Alamo Rent-A-Car and National Car Rental, are truly honored to be the title sponsor for the Shidler scholarship luncheon once again,&rdquo; said Dan Schaberg, general manager and <abbr title=\"Vice President\">VP<\/abbr> of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> Enterprise. &ldquo;Enterprise has participated in this scholarship event each year since its inception in 2005 and we understand the true importance of showing support for these future leaders who will make a positive impact not only on\u00a0the State of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span>, but the world.&rdquo; Enterprise is one of the college&#8217;s most steadfast scholarship and business night donors, having renewed its\u00a0annual scholarship commitment for more than 10 years.<\/p>\n<p>The Shidler College of Business has the most robust scholarship program in the entire <abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">UH<\/abbr> System. Since 2005, the number of scholarship awards has increased from 161 to 350, a growth of 117 percent. On average, 17 percent of Shidler students receive merit scholarship support.<\/p>\n<h2>2016 scholarship luncheon<\/h2>\n<p>This year&#8217;s luncheon featured scholarship donor Martin Welch, chief executive officer of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hemic.com\/\"><span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> Employers&#8217; Mutual Insurance Company<\/a> (HEMIC). &ldquo;<abbr title=\"Hawaii Employers Mutual Insurance Company\">HEMIC<\/abbr> is a proud supporter of the Shidler College of Business through our Robert L. Dove\u00a0Jr.\u00a0Endowed Scholarship for Insurance Excellence. This four-year scholarship honors our founding <abbr title=\"Chief Executive Officer\">CEO<\/abbr>, Bob Dove, whose vision and commitment to insurance and business education inspired us to take an active role in developing <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span>&#8217;s business leaders of tomorrow,&rdquo; said Welch.<\/p>\n<p><abbr>HEMIC<\/abbr> established the scholarship fund in 2014 to help the college recruit high performing freshmen from <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> high schools who wish to pursue a business degree at the Shidler College of Business.<\/p>\n<p>Undergraduate student speaker <strong>Nicole Oka<\/strong> said, &ldquo;I have tried to make the most of every opportunity that I am given, and the University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> and Shidler have given me plenty of them.
