  {"id":5303,"date":"2012-03-23T14:14:02","date_gmt":"2012-03-24T00:14:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/?p=5303"},"modified":"2021-12-10T17:06:53","modified_gmt":"2021-12-11T03:06:53","slug":"manoa-chancellor-candidates","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2012\/03\/23\/manoa-chancellor-candidates\/","title":{"rendered":"M\u0101noa chancellor candidates to visit campus in April"},"content":{"rendered":"<span class=\"span-reading-time rt-reading-time\" style=\"display: block;\"><span class=\"rt-label rt-prefix\">Reading time: <\/span> <span class=\"rt-time\"> 2<\/span> <span class=\"rt-label rt-postfix\">minutes<\/span><\/span><p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/manoa-candidates.jpg\" alt=\"Carlo Montemagno, Thomas Apple, Robert Holub and Kim Wilcox\" width=\"620\" height=\"185\" class=\"size-full wp-image-5372\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/manoa-candidates.jpg 620w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/manoa-candidates-260x77.jpg 260w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Four candidates for the chancellor position at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.manoa.hawaii.edu\">University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> at M&#257;noa<\/a> have been invited to visit the campus in April and make public presentations to students, faculty, staff and the community.<\/p>\n<p>The <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M&#257;noa Chancellor Search Advisory Committee extended invitations to the candidates following review of an extensive national pool of potential applicants developed by executive search firm Issacson, Miller.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;From the very beginning, we&#8217;ve been impressed with and appreciative of the inclusive nature of the search for the next <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M&#257;noa chancellor,&rdquo; said Search Advisory Committee Chair <strong>Klaus Keil<\/strong>, a planetary scientist with the <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> Institute of Geophysics and Planetology at <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M&#257;noa. &ldquo;The committee had an excellent and diverse group of candidates from which to make our recommendations, and the scope of the committee membership included faculty, staff, researchers and students, all stakeholders with a vested interest in the next leader of <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M&#257;noa.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Committee Co-Chair Mark Fukunaga, chairman and <abbr>CEO<\/abbr> of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.servco.com\/\">Servco Pacific<\/a>, said, &ldquo;The University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> at M&#257;noa has a critical role in determining the social and economic future of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span>. It has achieved a great deal of success in research funding and student attainment, and is poised at an inflection point in its history to do far more. The next chancellor will lead collaborative efforts between <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M&#257;noa, businesses, government, the wider community and international institutions, and will need to understand that partnerships are necessary to move <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M&#257;noa forward. We feel confident that the field of finalists for consideration will meet that expectation.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<h2>Finalists and tentative presentation schedule<\/h2>\n<p>Each candidate will give a presentation on his or her vision for the university to interested faculty, staff, students and members of the community.
