University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> at Mānoa School of Nursing and Dental Hygiene<\/a> invites all UH<\/abbr> Mānoa veterans, faculty, staff and students to attend the 2016 Veterans Day Celebration. The event is free to the UH<\/abbr> Mānoa campus community and guests on Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> Hall Lawn, November 9, 10:30 a.m.–noon.<\/p>\n

The purpose of this event is to honor all veterans and to recognize 13 student veterans who will receive scholarships to purse higher education. Student veterans will receive between $2,500 to $5,000 to further their nursing education at UH<\/abbr> Mānoa<\/a>, Kapiʻolani<\/span> Community College<\/a>, Kauaʻi<\/span> Community College<\/a> and Maui College<\/a>. Scholarship recipients will be in attendance.<\/p>\n

The UH<\/abbr> Mānoa Nursing Veterans to BSN<\/abbr> Program<\/a> provides college credit for past medical experience, creating a quick pathway to professional nursing and employment for service members with skills and experience in healthcare. The initiative is the first program of its kind in Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> and is part of the national effort to address the growing demand for health care services throughout our nation.<\/p>\n

The celebration will include Posting of Colors by the UH<\/abbr> Mānoa Army ROTC<\/abbr> Color Guard and singing of the national anthem and state song by UH<\/abbr> Mānoa students. A moment of silence to remember the sacrifices of members of the armed forces and civilians in times of war will be followed by remarks from UH<\/abbr> President David Lassner<\/a><\/strong>, UH<\/abbr> Mānoa School of Nursing and Dental Hygiene Dean Mary G. Boland<\/a><\/strong> and keynote speaker Jared Lyon, president and CEO<\/abbr> of Student Veterans of America<\/a>. The celebration will be followed by a free cake reception honoring the U.S Marine Corps 241st birthday on November 10.<\/p>\n

This event is supported by the UH<\/abbr> Mānoa Nursing Achieving a BS<\/abbr> in Nursing-A Veterans’ Initiative Program and the UH<\/abbr> Mānoa Student Activity and Program Fee Board<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
