These conditions\u00a0can have serious implications for the supply of freshwater on islands, the health of important ecosystems and wildlife species, and the ability of many local communities to continue their traditional ways of life.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.google.com\/a\/hawaii.edu\/abby_frazier\/\">Abby Frazier<\/a><\/strong>, research geographer, recently joined the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.doi.gov\/csc\/pacific\">U.S. Department of the Interior&#8217;s Pacific Islands Climate Science Center<\/a>, a center managed by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usgs.gov\/\">United States Geological Survey<\/a> (USGS) and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fs.fed.us\/psw\/programs\/ipif\/\"><abbr title=\"United States Department of Agriculture\">USDA<\/abbr> Institute of Pacific Islands Forestry<\/a> as post-doctoral lead of a new effort to understand the future of drought impacts in <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> and the U.S. Affiliated Pacific Islands.
