University of Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> West Oʻahu<\/span><\/a> Associate Professor Jason Levy<\/strong> is serving as the principal investigator on a two-year, $1.6 million grant from the U.S.<\/abbr> Economic Development Administration<\/a> to promote business resilience and public-private sector partnerships in Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span>. Levy is teaming with Ross Prizzia<\/strong>, professor of public administration and director of\u00a0disaster preparedness and emergency management programs<\/a> at UH<\/abbr> West Oʻahu<\/span>, to develop\u00a0timely and valuable solutions for business continuity planning and disaster management. <\/p>\n

The proposal\u00a0involves the\u00a0planning and development of a business recovery center in\u00a0Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> to enhance disaster preparedness\u00a0and create a robust business resilience network that strives for best disaster management practices and continuous improvement.<\/p>\n

“The state of Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> has urgent needs for both pre-disaster business continuity planning and post-disaster recovery actions due to its location, topography and\u00a0demographics. As the most isolated population center in the world, transportation travel times and import\u00a0costs to Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> are significant.\u00a0As well, Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> is exposed to a wide range of natural, health-related and intentional\u00a0threats (from hurricanes and\u00a0tsunamis\u00a0to active volcanoes and emerging infectious diseases),” Levy said.<\/p>\n
