Inouye Solar Telescope<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"clear-photo\">The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.courts.state.hi.us\/courts\/supreme\/hawaii_supreme_court\"><span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> State Supreme Court<\/a> has affirmed the Conservation District Use Permit for the construction of the <a href=\"http:\/\/dkist.nso.edu\/\">Daniel K. Inouye Solar Telescope<\/a>  on Haleakal&#257;, Maui. The majority opinion said that the telescope is consistent with the purposes of the conservation district. The high court also unanimously affirmed the environmental assessment, which protects natural resources in the Haleakal&#257; Observatories site.<\/p>\n<p>The vertical, external construction of the $340-million telescope is complete. The remaining work is internal and the project is on budget and on track to be operational in 2019.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> is pleased with the State Supreme Court&#8217;s actions today,&rdquo; said <abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">UH<\/abbr> President <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/admin\/executives\/president.html\"><strong>David Lassner<\/strong><\/a>. &ldquo;We are still reviewing the full decisions, but we look forward to &lsquo;first light&rsquo; when the Daniel K. Inouye Solar Telescope will open a new era of discovery, in<span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span>, about the sun and its daily impacts on all life on Earth.&rdquo;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><abbr>UH<\/abbr> M&#257;noa <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ifa.hawaii.edu\/homepage\/\">Institute for Astronomy<\/a> Director <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ifa.hawaii.edu\/faculty\/director.shtml\"><strong>G&#252;nther Hasinger<\/strong><\/a> says the Daniel K.
