On Tuesday, September 27, the University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> at Mānoa<\/a> community will\u00a0celebrate Islam Day<\/a> with a full day of classes,\u00a0discussions\u00a0and\u00a0a movie screening.<\/p>\n

Discussions will include “Andalusian Mystical Philosopher Ibn Masarra” by Professor Tamara Albertini<\/a><\/strong> and a roundtable discussion, “What are the most pressing questions facing Muslims today?” with University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> at Mānoa faculty and students. There will also be a movie screening The Mirror<\/em> by Jafar Panahi. All events take place\u00a0at Kuykendall 101.<\/p>\n

Islam Day 2016 is sponsored by\u00a0Roshan Cultural Heritage Institute<\/a>, Pacific and Asian Affairs\u00a0Council<\/a>, Shangri La: A Museum of Islamic Art and Culture<\/a>, and UH<\/abbr> Mānoa ethnic studies<\/a>, history<\/a>, philosophy<\/a>, political science<\/a> and religion<\/a> departments.<\/p>\n

Islam Day (September 24) is a day of recognition for Islam and Muslims in Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span>. It was established by a symbolic resolution of the State Legislature in 2009. Since September 24 falls on a Saturday this year, the UH<\/abbr> Islamic Studies Program moved the celebration to the 27.<\/p>\n
