facilities on <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> Island plan to reopen (posted August 31, 3 <abbr title=\"after noon\">p.m.<\/abbr>)<\/h2>\n<p>Based on current conditions, all <abbr>UH<\/abbr> facilities on <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> Island plan to reopen tomorrow, Thursday, September 1, after being closed Wednesday, August 31 due to severe weather.<\/p>\n<p>If the situation for September 1 changes, <abbr>UH<\/abbr> will issue an update via email and <abbr>UH<\/abbr> alert text messaging.<\/p>\n<p>Please continue to monitor the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.prh.noaa.gov\/cphc\/\">National Weather Service<\/a> and local media.<\/p>\n<p>The facilities that plan to reopen tomorrow are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><abbr>UH<\/abbr> Hilo<\/li>\n<li><span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> Community College<\/li>\n<li><span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> Community College&#8211;P&#257;lamanui<\/li>\n<li><span aria-label=\"Imiloa\">&#699;Imiloa<\/span> Astronomy Center<\/li>\n<li>North <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> Education and Research Center<\/li>\n<li>Hale Pohaku&#8211;Onizuka Center for International Astronomy and food and lodging facilities (reopening at noon)<\/li>\n<li>All <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M&#257;noa College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources (CTAHR) facilities on <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> Island<\/li>\n<li>All <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M&#257;noa Institute for Astronomy (IfA) facilities on <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> Island<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Facilities on all other islands remain open and were not affected, except for <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Maui College H&#257;na Education Center, that will close 5 <abbr>p.m.<\/abbr> on August 31 until further notice, due to power failure.<\/p>\n<h3>Severe weather update (posted August 31, 11 <abbr title=\"before noon\">a.m.<\/abbr>)<\/h3>\n<p><abbr>UH<\/abbr> will update closure information related to Hurricane Madeline this afternoon (August 31) pending latest reports from state officials.<\/p>\n<h3><abbr>UH<\/abbr> closures on <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> Island (posted August 30, 3:30 p.m.)<\/h3>\n<p>All University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> facilities on <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> Island will be closed for all students and non-essential personnel starting tomorrow, Wednesday, August 31, in advance of Hurricane Madeline.<\/p>\n<p>This includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/hilo.hawaii.edu\/\"><abbr>UH<\/abbr> Hilo<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/hawaii.hawaii.edu\/\"><span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> Community College<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/hawaii.hawaii.edu\/palamanui\/\"><span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> Community College&#8211;P&#257;lamanui<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.imiloahawaii.org\/\"><span aria-label=\"Imiloa\">&#699;Imiloa<\/span> Astronomy Center<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/hilo.hawaii.edu\/academics\/nherc\/\">North <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> Education and facilities on <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> Island<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Although these closures only affect <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> Island (at this time), the entire <abbr>UH<\/abbr> community is urged to stay vigilant and follow the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.prh.noaa.gov\/cphc\/\">National Weather Service<\/a>, other official agencies and local media for the latest up for <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Alert<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Notifications affecting <abbr>UH<\/abbr> campuses will also be posted at the <a href=\"http:\/\/hawaii.edu\/emergency\/\"><abbr>UH<\/abbr> Emergency Information webpage<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Checklist for building closures<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Close all windows and blinds.\u2028<\/li>\n<li>Secure important\/confidential documents and valuables.\u2028<\/li>\n<li>Remove perishable foods from buildings, trash cans and refrigerators.\u2028<\/li>\n<li>Update telephone and e-mail messages for the closure period.\u2028<\/li>\n<li>Turn off and unplug all electrical equipment and appliances (except phones), including: refrigerators (remove all items, defrost and wipe down), microwave ovens, coffee makers, battery chargers, computers,
