John A. Burns School of Medicine<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> at Mānoa John A. Burns School of Medicine<\/a> has received Accreditation with Commendation from the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education<\/a> (ACCME) for its Continuing Medical Education Program<\/a>. The program, Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> Consortium for CME<\/abbr>, is a joint venture between JABSOM<\/abbr> and the Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> Medical Association that began in 1994.<\/p>\n

CME<\/abbr> director Kalani Brady<\/strong> says this is the first time in its 22-year history that Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> Consortium for CME<\/abbr> has received Accreditation with Commendation.<\/p>\n

The designation of Accreditation with Commendation, issued last month, is for a six-year period and commends the John A. Burns School of Medicine for meeting the ACCME<\/abbr>’s accreditation requirements and for “demonstrating that yours is a learning organization and a change agent for physicians and patients you serve. You have demonstrated an engagement with your environment in support of physician learning and change that is a part of a system for quality improvement.”<\/p>\n

Legislation mandates evidence of CME<\/abbr> as a requirement for licensure in Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> and there is increasing benefit of CME<\/abbr> for maintaining physician certification by national specialty boards. CME<\/abbr> also serves as a vehicle for faculty development.<\/p>\n

The mission of the Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> Consortium for CME<\/abbr> is to support delivery of the highest quality of patient care by educating current health-care professionals and physician leaders in Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> and the Asia-Pacific region.<\/p>\n

The consortium believes that excellence and leadership in health care is accomplished through a continuum of medical education and to that end provides activities that are evidence-based, translational, in community partnerships and directed to improving the competence and performance of physicians and health of the community.<\/p>\n
