However, the payload was not recovered as planned. <abbr>NASA<\/abbr> will investigate the anomaly.&rdquo;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>A Terrier Improved-Malemute suborbital sounding rocket carrying a payload developed by <a href=\"http:\/\/uhcc.hawaii.edu\/\">University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> Community College<\/a> students launched from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/centers\/wallops\/home\"><abbr>NASA<\/abbr>&#8217;s Wallops Flight Facility<\/a> in Virginia, August 17. The rocket launched around 7:33 a.m. <abbr title=\"Eastern Standard Time\">EST<\/abbr> (around 1:33 <abbr title=\"before noon\">a.m.<\/abbr> <abbr title=\"Hawaii Standard Time\">HST<\/abbr>) and reached a height of 95.29 miles.<\/p>\n<p>A team of three mentors and eight students was at Wallops for the launch. The initiative known as Project Imua involves students from four <abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">UH<\/abbr> Communty College campuses. The project provides them with real-life hands-on aeronautical engineering experiences with <abbr>NASA<\/abbr>. This was the Project Imua team&#8217;s second <abbr>NASA<\/abbr> launch and second payload.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_48841\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-48841\" style=\"width: 260px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/system-project-imua-rocket-260x197.jpg\" alt=\"Two views of a rocket launch\" width=\"260\" height=\"197\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-48841\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/system-project-imua-rocket-260x197.jpg 260w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/system-project-imua-rocket.jpg 620w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 260px) 100vw, 260px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-48841\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Project Imua payload launch<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Their second payload, developed by students from four community college campuses, was named <abbr>PrIME<\/abbr> (Project Imua Multiple Experiment).
