The <a href=\"http:\/\/wish.org\/\">Make-A-Wish<\/a> teen from Texas had been diagnosed with bone cancer and <abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">UH<\/abbr> welcomed her with aloha.<\/p>\n<p>As part of her wish, the avid basketball fan also got to spend some quality time with <abbr>UH<\/abbr> <a href=\"http:\/\/hawaiiathletics.com\/index.aspx?path=wbball\">Wahine basketball<\/a> players. She shot some hoops and showed them some of her skills, much to their delight.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;It was great meeting Alyssa today&rdquo; said <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Wahine basketball player <strong>Sarah Toeaina<\/strong>. &ldquo;Make-A-Wish made her wish come true and it&#8217;s a blessing to be a part of that.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_48271\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-48271\" style=\"width: 630px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/manoa-make-a-wish-alyssa-athletics.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"620\" height=\"230\" class=\"size-full wp-image-48271\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/manoa-make-a-wish-alyssa-athletics.jpg 620w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/manoa-make-a-wish-alyssa-athletics-260x96.jpg 260w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-48271\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Alyssa was greeted by <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M&#257;noa students, faculty and staff, including the Pep Band, Rainbow Dancers and athletic teams at the Stan Sheriff Center<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Alyssa wished to attend medical school at <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M&#257;noa to give her hope and a goal to work toward. The <a href=\"http:\/\/jabsom.hawaii.edu\/\">John A. Burns School of Medicine<\/a> held a special honorary white coat ceremony for Alyssa and former <abbr>UH<\/abbr> basketball player and current first-year medical student <strong>Sai Tummala<\/strong> presented her with a basketball signed by his classmates.<\/p>\n<p>Of her <abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">UH<\/abbr> experience, Alyssa said, &ldquo;It was amazing. I was super surprised, and it was awesome.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>According to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, osteosarcoma, or bone cancer, accounts for only 2 percent of all childhood cancers. This year, 400 children and teens younger than 20 will be diagnosed with bone cancer.
