On July 1, 2016, the University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> was awarded full accreditation by the Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care<\/a>\u00a0(AAALAC) International. In addition to assuring the public that research animals at UH<\/abbr> receive the utmost care while contributing to experimental research and education, the accreditation enables UH<\/abbr> researchers to qualify for grants that are only available to AAALAC<\/abbr>-accredited institutions.<\/p>\n

With the accreditation, UH<\/abbr> is recognized as a top research institution that puts care and use of animals used in its research and teaching as a top priority.<\/p>\n

“I was pleased by the comments from the AAALAC<\/abbr> accreditation team noting our well-written program description, strong administrative support, state-of- the-art equipment and especially—the positive spirt of our knowledgeable staff and principal investigators,” said Vassilis L. Syrmos<\/strong><\/a>, UH<\/abbr> vice president for research and innovation. “I would like to acknowledge Dr. Sylvia Kondo<\/strong>, her team at the Animal Resource Center<\/a> and the UH<\/abbr> Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee<\/a> for their dedicated efforts in preparing the key accreditation application.\u201d<\/p>\n

About the Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care<\/h2>\n

AAALAC<\/abbr> International is a private, nonprofit organization that promotes the humane treatment of animals in science through voluntary accreditation and assessment programs. More than 950 companies, universities, hospitals, government agencies and other research institutions in 41 countries have earned AAALAC<\/abbr> accreditation, demonstrating their commitment to responsible animal care and use.
