Saturday GENE-iuses provides a series of nine engaging, hands-on Saturday classes, presented in teaching labs at the University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> at M&#257;noa, that encourage scientific thinking and appreciation for all things related to science. Since 2006, more than 8,000 schoolchildren in <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> have been introduced to exciting scientific concepts through the GENE-ius Day program developed by Professor <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ctahr.hawaii.edu\/geneius-day\/about.html\">Ania Wieczorek<\/a><\/strong>, and offered by the <a href=\"http:\/\/manoa.hawaii.edu\/ctahr\/tpss\/\">Department of Tropical Plant and Soil\u00a0Sciences<\/a> of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ctahr.hawaii.edu\/site\/\">College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources<\/a> (CTAHR) at <abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">UH<\/abbr> M&#257;noa.<\/p>\n<h2><abbr title=\"Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics\">STEM<\/abbr> Learning That&#8217;s Fun<\/h2>\n<p>&ldquo;The GENE-ius Day Program was created to teach the concepts of genetics and other Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) subjects in a fun, easy-to-remember way,&rdquo; Wieczorek says. &ldquo;Each GENE-ius Day event is packed with hands-on experiments and activities that let students experience and enjoy science.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<h2>How to Get Involved<\/h2>\n<p>Reservations are required and should be made as soon as possible, because the seats fill up quickly.\u00a0Payment of $231 for all 9 sessions can be submitted online via credit card, or by mailing a check. Further instructions can be found on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ctahr.hawaii.edu\/geneius-day\/\">registration forms<\/a> available at the program website.<\/p>\n<p>Children should be registered according to their 2016&#8211;2017 grade level. Classes will start in September 2016 and will continue throughout Saturday GENE-iuses registration open for 2016&#8211;17the school year. Students in the grade 1&#8211;3 section must be accompanied by a chaperone, who will also need to pay for the session.
