{"id":43919,"date":"2016-03-16T09:05:44","date_gmt":"2016-03-16T19:05:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/?p=43919"},"modified":"2019-01-03T14:30:48","modified_gmt":"2019-01-04T00:30:48","slug":"school-of-travel-industry-management-earns-reaccreditation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2016\/03\/16\/school-of-travel-industry-management-earns-reaccreditation\/","title":{"rendered":"School of Travel Industry Management earns reaccreditation"},"content":{"rendered":"<span class=\"span-reading-time rt-reading-time\" style=\"display: block;\"><span class=\"rt-label rt-prefix\">Reading time: <\/span> <span class=\"rt-time\"> 2<\/span> <span class=\"rt-label rt-postfix\">minutes<\/span><\/span><div class=\"responsive-video-wrap\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"620\" height=\"349\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/uCHpCFk_SGc?rel=0&amp;showinfo=0\" title=\"Youtube video player\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>The University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> at M&#257;noa <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tim.hawaii.edu\/\">School of Travel Industry Management<\/a> (<abbr>TIM<\/abbr>) has been granted continued accreditation for its <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tim.hawaii.edu\/undergraduate\">bachelor of science degree<\/a> for the maximum seven-year period from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.acpha-cahm.org\/\">Accreditation Commission for Programs in Hospitality Administration<\/a> (<abbr>ACPHA<\/abbr>), the national accrediting organization for all baccalaureate-level hospitality programs.<\/p>\n<p>The news was relayed to <abbr>TIM<\/abbr> Interim Dean <a href=\"http:\/\/tim.hawaii.edu\/thomas-bingham\"><strong>Thomas Bingham<\/strong><\/a> in a letter dated February 26 from Commission Chair Jeff Lolli. &ldquo;I extend to you on behalf of the full commission our sincere congratulations on this significant achievement,&rdquo; wrote Lolli.<\/p>\n<p>Said Dean Bingham, &ldquo;We are pleased to have met and exceeded the nationally recognized standards set by <abbr>ACPHA<\/abbr> and we remain dedicated to preparing the next generation of hospitality and tourism professionals for <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> and beyond.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p><abbr>TIM<\/abbr>&#8217;s reaccreditation period runs until winter 2022.<\/p>\n<p>George D. Szigeti, president and <abbr title=\"Chief Executive Officer\">CEO<\/abbr> of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hawaiitourismauthority.org\/\"><span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> Tourism Authority<\/a>, noted the School of Travel Industry Management&#8217;s contribution to <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span>&#8217;s tourism industry. &ldquo;The <abbr>TIM<\/abbr> school has been invaluable to <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> tourism and its value will only increase as our industry adapts to the evolving growth of global travel. It offers both a bachelor of science degree where students can select from an emphasis in hotel and resort management or tourism and transportation management and a master of science degree where students can explore management in a broad range of travel and tourism sectors and tailor their specific interests through the selection of electives and\/or a research thesis. The <abbr>TIM<\/abbr> school also offers two online certificate programs&#8212;travel industry management and sustainable tourism.<\/p>\n<p>The School of Travel Industry Management is the only program in the <abbr>U.S.<\/abbr> that combines the three disciplines of hospitality,tourism and transportation.
