Taupōuri Tangarō<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Taupōuri Tangarō<\/strong> has been named director of Hawaiian culture and protocols engagement for the University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> at Hilo<\/a> and Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> Community College<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“The appointment of Dr. Tangarō to this important collaborative position shows the joint commitment of UH<\/abbr> Hilo and Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> Community College to Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> Papa O Ke Ao, the systemwide plan for UH<\/abbr> to become a model indigenous-serving institution,” said UH<\/abbr> Hilo Chancellor Don Straney<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Tangarō served on the University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> System taskforce that developed the plan in 2012 and currently serves as a member of the systemwide Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> Papa O Ke Ao Committee<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“Dr. Tangarō is well qualified to advise the leadership of UH<\/abbr> Hilo and Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> Community College on implementing our respective Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> Papa O Ke Ao plans and collaborating on goals and objectives that benefit both campuses,” said Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> CC<\/abbr> Interim Chancellor Joni Onishi<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Tangarō received the Native Hawaiian Education Association<\/a> Educator of the Year in 2013, the UH<\/abbr> Board of Regents Excellence in Teaching Award<\/a>, the UH<\/abbr> Frances Davis Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching<\/a> and the UH<\/abbr> Hilo Distinguished Service Award.<\/p>\n
