(Photo credit: Carolynn Yamada)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"clear-photo\">Five foodservice students from various hotel and lodging companies on <span aria-label=\"Oahu\">O&#699;ahu<\/span> completed the first-ever <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hariett.com\/\">Hotel and Restaurant Industry Employees Training Trust<\/a> (<abbr>HARIETT<\/abbr>) Culinary Vocational Arts Program at <a href=\"https:\/\/windward.hawaii.edu\/\">Windward Community College<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The program provided students with academic training and practical laboratory skills training. Students participated in the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation&#8217;s ManageFirst program classes in food safety and sanitation, menu planning, purchasing, inventory control and management. The 245-hour laboratory skills training classes included food production, basic baking and garde manger.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I really enjoyed this class and learned so much. It was hard, but I learned very good lessons on how not to give up when the pressure is on,&rdquo; said <strong>Lisa Hao<\/strong>, <abbr>HARIETT<\/abbr> student.<\/p>\n<p>Windward Community College Career and Community Education and <abbr>HARIETT<\/abbr> partnered to provide the 473-hour culinary education and training program.<\/p>\n<h2>More about <abbr>HARIETT<\/abbr><\/h2>\n<p><abbr>HARIETT<\/abbr> is a non-profit institution and a labor-management partnership\/Taft Hartley fund that provides benefits to both members of UNITE HERE!
