First Lady Dawn Amano-Ige<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

For the first time since 2008, the NAFSA<\/abbr> Association for International Educators Region XII<\/abbr> conference<\/a> was held in Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> from October 26–30. University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span><\/a> educators were actively involved in the event, which connected more than 550 education professionals from Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span>, California, Nevada and the Pacific Islands as well as NAFSA<\/abbr> staff from the national headquarters in Washington, D.C. to discuss issues, trends and student mobility in the rapidly changing and dynamic field of education.<\/p>\n

Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span>’s First Lady Dawn Amano-Ige, opened the conference, noting that education exchange with other countries is important to the governor and herself and increasingly important in today’s globalized society. An educator herself, Amano-Ige stressed the importance of education in ensuring that the next generation become global citizens and described education as a commonality that binds us among nations and communities.<\/p>\n

Brian Grove, director of the international students and scholars office at the University of California San Francisco<\/a> is this year’s Region XII<\/abbr> chair.
