The University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> at Mānoa’s Office of the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs<\/a> has initiated a formal search process for the regular appointment of dean of the College of Natural Sciences<\/a>. The previous dean, William Ditto<\/strong>, served from July 2011 through July 2015, and Kristin Kumashiro<\/strong> who was chair of the department of chemistry has been named interim dean from 2015 to 2016.<\/p>\n

“This is an absolutely key position to all of our efforts to move Mānoa forward, as the college provides all the key gateway courses in STEM<\/abbr> (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) fields, offers some of the most popular majors and has strong graduate programs and research programs,” said Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Reed Dasenbrock<\/strong>. “We look forward to a successful search for someone to lead the College of Natural Sciences to achieve new levels of excellence by pursuing an integrated and comprehensive academic program.”<\/p>\n

College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources<\/a> Dean Maria Gallo<\/strong> will chair the 12-member search advisory committee, which will recommend finalists to Chancellor Robert Bley-Vroman<\/strong> and Vice Chancellor Dasenbrock. The committee includes chairs, faculty, staff and students from the college, as well as representatives of the Kualiʻi<\/span> Council and the community.<\/p>\n
