{"id":38058,"date":"2015-09-08T13:55:06","date_gmt":"2015-09-08T23:55:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/?p=38058"},"modified":"2021-07-30T13:17:29","modified_gmt":"2021-07-30T23:17:29","slug":"culinary-institute-of-the-pacific-groundbreaking","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2015\/09\/08\/culinary-institute-of-the-pacific-groundbreaking\/","title":{"rendered":"Culinary Institute of the Pacific at Diamond Head breaks ground"},"content":{"rendered":"<span class=\"span-reading-time rt-reading-time\" style=\"display: block;\"><span class=\"rt-label rt-prefix\">Reading time: <\/span> <span class=\"rt-time\"> &lt; 1<\/span> <span class=\"rt-label rt-postfix\">minute<\/span><\/span><p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"676\" height=\"380\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/V2TQZ5sp2sE\" title=\"Youtube video player\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/uhcc.hawaii.edu\/\">University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> Community Colleges System<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kapiolani.hawaii.edu\/\"><span aria-label=\"Kapiolani\">Kapi&#699;olani<\/span> Community College<\/a> broke ground today on the <a href=\"http:\/\/culinary.kapiolani.hawaii.edu\/\">Culinary Institute of the Pacific<\/a> at Diamond Head located on the former site of the Cannon Club.<\/p>\n<p>The Culinary Institute of the Pacific at Diamond Head will be home to the advanced professional certificate in culinary management that articulates into a bachelor of applied science degree at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uhwo.hawaii.edu\/\">University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> at West <span aria-label=\"Oahu\">O&#699;ahu<\/span><\/a>. The $25-million first phase of the advanced culinary facility includes two single story laboratory buildings, outdoor cooking area, landscaping, the first of two parking lots and all the offsite utility infrastructure for the entire project. Future phases of the project will include an administration\/faculty building, auditorium, classrooms, advanced patisserie and confisserie laboratories and a teaching restaurant.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_38087\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-38087\" style=\"width: 630px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/kapiolani-culinary-institute-groundbreaking.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"620\" height=\"241\" class=\"size-full wp-image-38087\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/kapiolani-culinary-institute-groundbreaking.jpg 620w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/kapiolani-culinary-institute-groundbreaking-260x101.jpg 260w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-38087\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><abbr>UH<\/abbr> leaders and local dignitaries at Culinary Institute of the Pacific at Diamond Head groundbreaking<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Dignitaries who spoke at the ceremony included <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> State Governor David Ige, <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Board of Regents Chair <strong>Randy Moore<\/strong>, <abbr>UH<\/abbr> President <strong>David Lassner<\/strong>, <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Vice President for Community Colleges <strong>John Morton<\/strong>, Culinary Institute of the Pacific Director <strong>Conrad Nonaka<\/strong>, Chef <strong>Roy Yamaguchi<\/strong>, Chef <strong>Alan Wong<\/strong> and student representative <strong>Tiffanie Masutani<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The Culinary Institute of the Pacific at Diamond Head will be the epicenter for culinary innovation in <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> said Lassner.<\/p>\n<p>Morton also praised the project. &ldquo;It has taken many hands to reach this point of groundbreaking for the Culinary Institute of the Pacific on Diamond Head.
