Honolulu Community College<\/a> received its re-designation as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance\/Cyber Defense for Two-Year Education<\/a> (CAE2Y IA\/CD<\/abbr>) at the Colloquium for Information Systems Security Education held in Las Vegas, Nevada this summer. Honolulu CC<\/abbr> is now one of only 31 junior and community colleges nationwide to hold this distinction.<\/p>\n

The CAE2Y IA\/CD<\/abbr> program, which is jointly sponsored by the National Security Agency<\/a> (NSA<\/abbr>) and the Department of Homeland Security<\/a>, recognizes colleges and universities that have met their standard of excellence, in providing quality cybersecurity awareness, training and education to the community.<\/p>\n

Honolulu CC<\/abbr>’s Computing, Electronics and Networking Technology<\/a> (CENT<\/abbr>) Program Coordinator, Sally Dunan<\/strong> and Technical Coordinator Aaron Tanaka<\/strong> accepted the honor at the national awards ceremony. “Having the CAE2Y<\/abbr> designation has opened the door to key industry partnerships that our students and the program will greatly benefit from,” shares Tanaka.<\/p>\n

In July, Honolulu CC<\/abbr> partnered with the NSA<\/abbr>, National Science Foundation<\/a>, Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> Department of Education<\/a>, University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> Information Technology Services<\/a>, Pacific Center for Advanced Technology Training<\/a>, and the University of Alaska<\/a>, in hosting the first ever Gencyber camp. The camp was attended by 59 high school students and 28 high school teachers from Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> with one high school student attending from Texas.<\/p>\n
