Payloads developed by students from seven higher education programs were aboard the rocket.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou just see the thing ignite and shoot off into the sky. It\u2019s the most amazing feeling in the world, especially since we\u2019ve been working on it for over a year. And we are finally seeing all of our hard work pay off,\u201d said <span aria-label=\"Kapiolani\">Kapi\u02bbolani<\/span> <abbr>CC<\/abbr> student <strong><span aria-label=\"Kalaimoana\">Kala\u02bbimoana<\/span> Garcia<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s been a long trip. It\u2019s taken nine months to get here, so its really exciting that we are finally getting a launch that\u2019s going to be the culmination of what we\u2019ve been working for,\u201d said Windward <abbr>CC<\/abbr> student <strong>Cale Mechler<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The scientific instrument that forms the main component of Project Imua\u2019s payload consists of a <abbr>UV<\/abbr> spectrometer that will analyze the intensity of the sun\u2019s ultraviolet radiation before it enters Earth\u2019s atmosphere. The data could have implications regarding climate.<\/p>\n<p>After achieving an altitude of 94-miles, plans were for the payload with the students\u2019 experiments to be recovered in the Atlantic Ocean off the Virginia coast. The experiments and any stored data would then be provided to the teams to analyze.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is really a system-wide collaboration, an effort to bring new industry and new technology into the <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai\u02bbi<\/span> economy,\u201d said <span aria-label=\"Kauai\">Kaua\u02bbi<\/span> <abbr>CC<\/abbr> student <strong>Marcus Yamaguchi<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Added <strong>Suraj Mehta<\/strong> of Honolulu <abbr>CC<\/abbr>, \u201cWe can do anything just like anywhere else in the world. We have facilities and we have come so far.
