Inouye Institute<\/a> Fund, a program of the <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> Community Foundation and the <a href=\"http:\/\/hawaii.edu\/\">University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span><\/a> announce that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.loc.gov\/\">Library of Congress<\/a> will be hosting a distinguished lecture series. Highlighting the importance Dan Inouye placed on bipartisanship and moral courage, the first annual lecture, in a series of five, will address shared values in U.S. foreign policy. The speakers will be Madeleine Albright and Colin Powell, and the moderator will be Andrea Mitchell, chief foreign affairs correspondent with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/\"><abbr>NBC<\/abbr> News<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The lecture, &ldquo;Finding Shared Values for U.S. Foreign Policy,&rdquo; will start at 6:30 p.m. <abbr>EST<\/abbr> on Wednesday, July 8, in the Coolidge Auditorium on the ground level of the Thomas Jefferson Building, Washington, D.C.<\/p>\n<h2><abbr>UH<\/abbr> M&#257;noa live stream<\/h2>\n<p>The free public lecture will be live streamed to the second floor of the <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M&#257;noa <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/campuscenter\/\">Campus Center<\/a>, as well as on the <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M&#257;noa <a href=\"http:\/\/socialsciences.hawaii.edu\/events\/loc-dki\/\">College of Social Science website<\/a>. Live streaming will start at 12:30 p.m. <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> time. Campus Center seating is limited and will be on a first-come, first-served basis. On-campus parking is available in visitor parking lots. More information regarding lot locations and parking rates may be found at the <a href=\"http:\/\/manoa.hawaii.edu\/commuter\/visitor.php\">commuter services website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The inaugural lecture will be formatted as a conversation between the two former secretaries of state. It will explore how policymakers and elected officials from different political parties have historically found common ground and cooperation in the areas of foreign policy, diplomacy and international relations.<\/p>\n<p>The event will be live-tweeted via the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.loc.gov\/loc\/kluge\/\">Kluge Center<\/a>&#8217;s and Inouye Institute&#8217;s Twitter accounts&#8212;<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/klugectr\">@KlugeCtr<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DKIInstitute\">@DKIInstitute<\/a> (#Inouye).<\/p>\n<p>The five-year series is made possible through a generous donation from the Inouye Institute. Each year the lecture will focus on one theme that reflects Senator Inouye&#8217;s legacy of public service and civic engagement. The senator&#8217;s congressional papers also are to be made digitally accessible, through an agreement between the institute and the Library, at both organizations.<\/p>\n<h2>About Daniel K. Inouye<\/h2>\n<p>Daniel K. Inouye served as <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span>&#8217;s first U.S. representative and then as U.S. senator for nearly half a century. A member of the Senate Watergate Committee and chairman of the Senate Iran-Contra Committee, he was a longtime member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, which he chaired from 2009 to 2012.
