  {"id":3599,"date":"2012-01-30T10:09:48","date_gmt":"2012-01-30T20:09:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/?p=3599"},"modified":"2021-05-17T12:02:19","modified_gmt":"2021-05-17T22:02:19","slug":"pharmacy-teachers-workshop","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2012\/01\/30\/pharmacy-teachers-workshop\/","title":{"rendered":"Pharmacy workshop promotes engineering careers"},"content":{"rendered":"<span class=\"span-reading-time rt-reading-time\" style=\"display: block;\"><span class=\"rt-label rt-prefix\">Reading time: <\/span> <span class=\"rt-time\"> 2<\/span> <span class=\"rt-label rt-postfix\">minutes<\/span><\/span><figure id=\"attachment_3794\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3794\" style=\"width: 250px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/workshop.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"149\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3794\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3794\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ken Morris, at microscope, leads teacher workshop<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Pharmacy faculty members at the <a href=\"http:\/\/hilo.hawaii.edu\">University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> at Hilo<\/a> spent part of their winter break encouraging K&#8211;12 teachers to introduce engineering concepts in their classes.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Engineering plays an important role in many careers, including pharmaceutical manufacturing,&rdquo; explained <strong>Ken Morris<\/strong>, professor of <a href=\"http:\/\/pharmacy.uhh.hawaii.edu\">pharmaceutical sciences<\/a>, who led a workshop attended by 29 teachers from the Hilo-Laupahoehoe-Waiakea Complex on <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> island.<\/p>\n<p>The National Science Foundation&#8211;funded workshop provided tools that teachers need to inspire students to look into engineering careers.
