UH<\/abbr> Maui College students Malia Ah Nee and Jerome Texeria receive the first ever awarded Chancellor’s Legacy Scholarship<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> Maui College<\/a> announced the first awardees of the Chancellor’s Legacy Scholarship—Jerome Texeria<\/strong> and Malia Ah Nee<\/strong>. Both UH<\/abbr> Maui College students received $5,000 scholarships funded through an endowment that honors the legacy of Clyde Sakamoto<\/strong>, who retired as chancellor after serving the UH<\/abbr> System for 41 years.<\/p>\n

Jerome Texeria<\/h2>\n

Texeria was born and raised in Maui, and graduated from Maui High School in 1997. He is currently pursuing his bachelor of applied science degree in applied business and information technology<\/a> and is expecting to graduate in 2017.<\/p>\n

“I’m so appreciative—this scholarship will really help me reach my academic goals,” said Texeria, who also worked with Sakamoto as a student assistant. “I feel honored to be one of the first to receive this award. I love UH<\/abbr> Maui College, and the support I’ve received here has been huge.”<\/p>\n

Malia Ah Nee<\/h2>\n

Ah Nee is also pursuing her degree in applied business and information technology. “Receiving the award meant a lot to me, especially because it was the Chancellor’s Legacy Scholarship,” she said.<\/p>\n

“At first I was a bit in shock, amazed, and grateful all at the same time. After the award ceremony I took a moment to truly reflect on my hard work and how it shaped me to be the person I am today. I will continue to be diligent and strive toward success in all aspects of my life. I would like to thank everyone who donated to this scholarship fund.”<\/p>\n
