Karl Kim<\/strong>, professor of the Department of Urban and Regional Planning<\/a> and executive director of the National Disaster Preparedness Training Center<\/a> at the University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span><\/a>, met with the Sultan of Tidore of Eastern Indonesia, to discuss natural hazards and opportunities for research, training and education with university partners.<\/p>\n

A team of UH<\/abbr> faculty, including Dolores Foley<\/strong>, Kem Lowry<\/strong>, Bruce Houghton<\/strong> and Keith Bettinger<\/strong> are in Indonesia as part of a United States Agency for International Development<\/a> (USAID<\/abbr>) funded training program on disaster risk reduction. In addition to discussing flooding, coastal hazards and sea level rise, the UH<\/abbr> team is also supporting efforts to strengthen training and education on food security, transportation systems and trade. <\/p>\n

The team from Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> has partnered with Hope Worldwide<\/a> and other organizations in the region to support disaster risk reduction.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
