Governor David Ige recognized more than 50 student athletes and coaches from the University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> at Mānoa in a special proclamation ceremony on May 12 at the Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> State Capitol.<\/p>\n

“This afternoon’s activities is to recognize and honor a number of teams that really did well, representing the state of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> and the university in the NCAA<\/abbr> Championships,“ Gov. Ige said. “Although we were not successful in winning the championship, I know—as an alumni—that I’m very proud of all of your work and I do know the sacrifice and commitment it takes to maintain and participate on the academic level as well as to perform at the highest level in your athletic endeavors.”<\/p>\n

Governor Ige presented official proclamations to the Rainbow Wahine sand volleyball team<\/a>, Rainbow Wahine water polo team<\/a> and the Rainbow Warrior men’s volleyball team<\/a> for their recent accomplishments in representing UH<\/abbr> in their respective National Collegiate Athletic Association<\/a> and American Volleyball Coaches Association<\/a> National Championships.<\/p>\n

Special certificates were also given to five student-athletes—swimmer Jasmine Alkhaldi<\/strong>, divers Lauren Hall<\/strong>, Aimee Harrison<\/strong> and Amund Gismervik<\/strong>, and women’s tennis player Cindy Nguyen<\/p>\n

“You make us all very proud, all the teams that are represented here, you make a difference for our community and inspire us all,” said Athletics Director David Matlin<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
