Mueller<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Charles W. Mueller<\/strong>, a professor of social and clinical psychology in the University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> at M&#257;noa <a href=\"http:\/\/www.psychology.hawaii.edu\/\">Department of Psychology<\/a>, has been named Outstanding Community Leader by the <a href=\"http:\/\/mentalhealth-hi.org\/\">Mental Health America of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span><\/a>. The award recognizes Mueller&#8217;s work in advancing children&#8217;s mental health services through advocacy, research training and direct services.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We are proud to honor Chuck during our tenth annual Mental Health Awards Luncheon on Tuesday, May 12, when we will celebrate leaders who have dedicated themselves to promoting mental wellness and improving the care provided to affected individuals,&rdquo; said MHA-<span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> Executive Director Marya Grambs. &ldquo;Chuck is an inspirational leader who has helped to greatly increase access to services and improve the quality of services for children and youth with behavioral disorders and mental health problems.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Since 2008, Mueller has served as co-director of the <a href=\"https:\/\/charleswmueller.wordpress.com\/center-for-cognitive-behavior-therapy\/\">Center for Cognitive Behavior Therapy<\/a> at <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M&#257;noa. The center is a training, research and treatment clinic providing assessment and psychosocial treatment for youth up to age 18 who have a range of mental health difficulties.<\/p>\n<p>Mueller also helped launch the <a href=\"https:\/\/charleswmueller.wordpress.com\/child-and-adolescent-mental-health-division\/\">Research Evaluation and Training Program<\/a>, a joint learning and service collaborative with <a href=\"http:\/\/manoa.hawaii.edu\/\"><abbr>UH<\/abbr> M&#257;noa<\/a> and the State of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> Department of Health <a href=\"http:\/\/health.hawaii.gov\/camhd\/\">Child and Adolescent Mental Health Division<\/a>. The Research Evaluation and Training Program has been instrumental in establishing and supporting systemwide research and evaluation about <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span>&#8217;s mental health services with a focus on developing and sustaining the efficient and cost-effective delivery of health services to youth and families.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Chuck&#8217;s tireless advocacy, passion for enhancing public mental health services, and dedication to improving the lives of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span>&#8217;s youth and their families are inspiring. His visionary leadership has been instrumental in advancing the quality of care and treatment of youth with mental health needs in the state,&rdquo; said Department of Psychology Chair <strong>Ashley Maynard<\/strong> in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.socialsciences.hawaii.edu\/index.html\">College of Social Sciences<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>More on Mueller<\/h2>\n<p>Mueller received his <abbr>PhD<\/abbr> in social psychology in 1981 from Iowa State University and his clinical psychology postdoctoral training certificate from <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M&#257;noa in 1988. <\/p>\n<p>His primary research interests focus on the interface of social and clinical psychology with an emphasis on children&#8217;s mental health service delivery (e.g., child and adolescent mental health systems improvement, treatment as usual, evidence based services), aggression and violence (e.g., effects of family violence, innovative treatments and externalizing behavior problems), and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.<\/p>\n<h2>Mental Health America of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Mental Health America of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> is an affiliate of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mentalhealthamerica.net\/\">Mental Health America<\/a>, a national organization comprised of more than 300 affiliates.
