{"id":34170,"date":"2015-04-28T13:28:05","date_gmt":"2015-04-28T23:28:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/?p=34170"},"modified":"2021-09-14T15:00:48","modified_gmt":"2021-09-15T01:00:48","slug":"uh-hilo-and-hawaii-cc-dancers-take-great-leaps-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2015\/04\/28\/uh-hilo-and-hawaii-cc-dancers-take-great-leaps-2\/","title":{"rendered":"<abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">UH<\/abbr> Hilo and Hawai\u02bbi <abbr title=\"Community College\">CC<\/abbr> dancers take Great Leaps"},"content":{"rendered":"<span class=\"span-reading-time rt-reading-time\" style=\"display: block;\"><span class=\"rt-label rt-prefix\">Reading time: <\/span> <span class=\"rt-time\"> &lt; 1<\/span> <span class=\"rt-label rt-postfix\">minute<\/span><\/span><p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/hilo-great-leaps.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/hilo-great-leaps.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"464\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-34175\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/hilo-great-leaps.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/hilo-great-leaps-168x260.jpg 168w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>More than 150 dancers from the <a href=\"http:\/\/hilo.hawaii.edu\/\">University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> at Hilo<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/hawaii.hawaii.edu\/\"><span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> Community College<\/a> come together to perform this spring&#8217;s production of Great Leaps on Saturday, May 2, 7:30 p.m. with preview on Friday, May 1, 7:30 p.m. at the <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Hilo Performing Arts Center.<\/p>\n<p>Two graduating seniors will present heartfelt reflections of their lives as <strong>Ashley Terrell<\/strong> honors her late father and <strong>Zachary Tman<\/strong> creates an aerial dance that communicates the importance of friendship through bullying as a child.<\/p>\n<p>The dance ensemble will perform three completely different styles.<\/p.\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><em>Paid In Blood<\/em>, choreographed by <strong>Dori Yamada<\/strong>, plays with the ideas of contagion and infection of both the tangible and intangible kind<\/li>\n<li><strong>Lawrence Mano<\/strong> celebrates the power of positivity with <em>Believe<\/em><\/li>\n<li><strong>Celeste Staton<\/strong> and <strong>Monique Clevenger<\/strong> create a musical theatre romp with soft shoe, in the classic <em>Steam Heat<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Kea Kapahua&#8217;s<\/strong> jazz class will perform a suite of short dances saluting the musical movie era that ends with a funky modern twist. She has also choreographed a modern piece entitled, <em>One-Song<\/em>, inspired by astronomical movements and patterns that reflect humanity&#8217;s connection and place within that universe.<\/p>\n<p>The concert will also include a pair of aerial dances from Annie Bunker, an exciting dance with an Afro-Celt sound by the <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> <abbr>CC<\/abbr> modern jazz class, along with performances from the <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Hilo modern dance and ballet classes.<\/p>\n<h2>Additional information<\/h2>\n<p>Ticket prices<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>$7 general admission<\/li>\n<li>$5 seniors\/<abbr>UH<\/abbr> students with a valid student <abbr>ID<\/abbr>\/children under 17<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Tickets for the May 1 preview are priced at $3.
